For Teenagers

(Not telling you want to do…. just trying to help you not make the mistake we have already learned the hard way!)

  1. Parents and Teachers are there to help you. They want to see you grow in to healthy, well rounded, self-sufficient, happy and positive people that are not afraid to make mistakes and love your successes.

  2. Focus. Don’t be like the hamster on the treadmill - spinning your legs but not going anywhere. Know what you want to get out of the next one/two hours and out of your day. Focus on the outcome not the effort. What do you want to get done, and DO IT!

  3. Try to be more aware of the project/task ahead and think what is best way to do it. Visualise it being done and look for problems.

  4. Think tidy when you do things from beginning to end

  5. When you get near the end don't loose energy or get distracted with next thing. Finish it always. And take a second to acknowledge yourself that it was done well. Take pride as you work and be proud at the end.

  6. Look back at everything you do and see did you complete it to your satisfaction? Could you have done better? Treat every opportunity as a learning experience. We are all products of the lessons of our life. School is a fraction of your learning.

  7. Always be confident in yourself and learn when it goes wrong. Don't make the same mistake again, change it. Have the confidence to know your did your best but to try and see how you can improve and get feedback. Don’t always think you did things perfectly. Nobody is perfect. The older you get, the more you realise you don’t know...

  8. Don't get lazy on the job. There is lots to be learned from manual work and task driven jobs as opposed to using modern tools and equipment. You learn discipline, cause and effect, as well as an appreciation of the essence of things.

  9. Keep yourself happy with your work. If there is a problem, talk about it or change it.

  10. Eat well and drink water. Try not to overly snack in between meals. Its a habit rather than because we are hungry.

  11. Listen to your elders. They have all made all the mistakes you are making now. Don't do the same - it's a waste of energy. The secret to success is to see how other people have learned their lessons and to grow. Its the fastest shortcut through life. Its why we read books - to learn from other peoples knowledge and lessons.

  12. Use your energy and time wisely learn to plan things that grow your task, project or plan.

  13. Be respectful. Of people. Of time. Of advice. Of things.

  14. Be nice to people and smile. Chances are they will be nice to you back.

  15. Don’t carry anger or upset. Every day starts with a new sunrise, so start every day as a new day. Let go of the past and yesterday and feel that you will have a great day ahead!

  16. Take 10 mins for yourself every day. no phone, no radio. Walk slowly somewhere or just sit in a quiet place. Just to breathe and let your body decompress. Dont even try and think. Just be.

  17. It is your attitude that will make you great. There will always be more skilled people at anything you do in life, but if you decide "I got this" and put the effort in, you will come out top of the pile. Every time. Sports stars say "The more I practice, the luckier I get". Give it your all, rather than think of it as work. You spend 8+ hours at it, you might as well try and be the best.

  18. In life, everyone takes different paths. Embrace your path and do it with positive energy. Don’t think too much about the future… enjoy today and give everything your fullest energy.

  19. Be tidy. In your room, your desk, your appearance, your clothes…. and your mind. You will feel better.

  20. Social media is like chewing gum for your brain… it doesn’t give you any mental nourishment. Try and be disciplined about using your phone. It can steal your time… and time is the most valuable thing in the world.
